The Shweshwe fabric is a widely used material in South Africa, and is a cloth that holds strong cultural ties to our heritage in southern Africa!

For years, the fabric, named “Seshweshwe” or “Seshoeshoe, has been used to make traditional attire mainly in the Northern Sotho, Southern Sotho,Tswana and Xhosa cultures! The shweshwe print in fact originates from Europe and was brought into Lesotho by French missionaries, as a gift to King Moshoeshoe 1 in the 1800s.

In recent times Shweshwe has seen a surge in popularity and while wearing a full tradition outfit in the beautiful patterns may be too much for most people, Tracy Bekker Creative Designs have given it a contemporary twist in their very wearable jewellery.
